Grand Island Public Schools, GreatCents.org Hello! I am so glad to be on the Big Brother Big Sister board where we are able to connect caring adults with kids. I have been working at Walnut Middle School for the last decade and have loved my time there. In my time working with thousands of students, there are a large handful that I couldn’t help thinking that a mentor would have made a big difference in their lives. I have had some amazing mentors that were there for me during difficult times in my life, I can’t imagine where I would be without them. The time that they spent with me has paid dividends in the lives of my students and my own.
I also have taught personal finances the last ten years, Financial Literacy, and built a site to help students learn. One major factor of personal financial success is having someone to look up to that has followed their dreams and accomplished them. Mentoring allows the students to have a broader perspective. When you give to Big Brother Big Sister you are investing in your community. I am so thankful to be a part of this organization and excited to see what its future holds! |
